My 5 Favorite Creations that Bring Joy
My 5 Favourite Items I Make
I’ve always enjoyed making things with my own hands and these are some of my favourite items. There’s something so satisfying about taking blank materials and transforming them into something beautiful or useful. Over the years, I’ve experimented with a variety of different crafts, but I always find myself coming back to wood and natural materials. Here are some of the new items I have been exploring and taking to events to gauge reactions. Some I have added to the website and others I will be adding in the new year. I’d love to hear what you think.
No. 1: Book Stacks
I love that these are made from genuine books! Yes, you read that correctly. These are books that are all damaged beyond use but I just can’t see them go to waste. So I started to create book stacks. I hand-paint each stack and then finish with a beautiful rustic jute binding ribbon and details. On the spine, I add a phrase or motto by hand. So far I have done: This is our Story, Our Home Our Life Our Story and Home Sweet Home.
No. 2: Hearts and Flowers
Reclaimed wood has become my firm favourite to work with this year as it has so much character. Combining it with other natural materials such as jute string and felt brings additional beauty. Each one of these items I create is unique and I have played with various sizes and details. I can’t wait to share more.
No. 3: Wood Slice Coasters
Sometimes the simplest things are the best. I make these coasters using local walnut, in fact, I know the very tree they came from and used to play in it as a child. As part of its care branches were removed and I have started to create items from the wood. I oil each coaster to bring out the stunning features of the wood.
No. 4: Pebble heart
The one in the photo has already sold, but I will be making more. Like the the plaque I showed earlier each one will be unique in size and shape as I work with the natural features of the reclaimed wood. I can add other wording can be added; home, this is us, our family or a name.
No. 5: A5 hardback notebooks
I love a notebook and have more than I should. This project was something I have wanted to do for a long time but struggled with the confidence to literally put pen to paper. I create the cover image of each book by hand. This brings together my love of modern calligraphy and brushstroke lettering while creating a naturally understated notebook that can be personalised to suit.
Which of these is your favourite?
These are just a few of my favourite items that I make. I’m always looking for new and exciting projects to try, and I love to share my creations with you.
